The Facilities

Student Clinics

The Parker College Student Clinic begins the "cutting edge" of training future doctors. Starting with Tri VI, Parker students begin to put the science of chiropractic and Parker philosophy into practice and step into their first experience in providing chiropractic care to fellow students.

The layout of the Student Clinic was designed to facilitate a smooth transition from Student Clinic to Outpatient Clinic. The Student Clinic is located immediately adjacent to the Parker College Chiropractic Wellness Clinic Dallas campus, and is part of the 60,000 square foot Clinic complex that also houses the Center for Clinics offices.

The Student Clinic features a large reception area, a records room adjoining the reception, 8 exam rooms with sinks and dressing rooms in each, an observation room for staff with one-way mirrors for observing patient examinations, 13 private treatment rooms, a director's office and 2 large clinic doctors offices with glass fronts overlooking classrooms.

The unique open classrooms provide 30 adjusting tables, with files and diagnostic equipment. A fully equipped Radiology area has five full size X-ray rooms, an X-ray viewing room and X-ray reading room, and a large dark room for class instruction, and is utilized by both the Student and the Dallas Chiropractic Wellness Clinics.

Dallas Chiropractic Wellness Clinic

The largest of two, contemporary outpatient facilities designed to accommodate over 250,000 patient visits a year is located on the Dallas campus. Completely renovated, redecorated and expanded to create a spacious and modern facility with state-of-the-art equipment and furnishings, the Dallas Chiropractic Wellness Clinic includes a separate waiting area and private offices and a low-tech rehabilitation area; all within easy access to 46 well appointed treatment rooms. The facility also includes a fully remodeled laboratory for blood tests and urinalysis, 10 fully equipped physiotherapy bays, six examination rooms with sink and dressing room in each and one-way mirrored walls that allow staff doctors to observe interns examining patients, as well as a children's play area. Administrative and records offices, a laundry for gowns, insurance room, a spacious reception area, skylights throughout and a landscaped courtyard with outdoor tables and chairs complete the layout, making the Dallas Chiropractic Wellness Clinic complex fully self-contained for the convenience of patients and efficiency of the interns.

In similar style to the main campus, the Chiropractic Wellness Clinic's property is well lit, encompassed in a decorative iron fence for safety as well as appearance, and patrolled by 24-hour, 7-day security. There are 144 parking spaces reserved for the patients. Faculty and staff park in their assigned spaces on the main campus.

Irving Chiropractic Wellness Clinic

Irving Chiropractic Wellness Clinic is located at the original campus in Irving, Texas. In 1991, some $120,000 was invested in renovations and improvements at this 6,000 square foot facility. This refurbished outpatient Chiropractic Wellness Clinic averages 75 to 100 patient visits per day and houses 13 adjusting rooms, three individual physical therapy bays, four private examination rooms, a report-of-findings room, a fully equipped laboratory for blood/urine analysis, a 300 MAS 125 KVP X-ray machine, and a second X-ray room. A Student Doctor Lounge is adjacent in the Irving campus building.

One asset for the Parker College of Chiropractic student interns is the large supply of patients in Dallas/Fort Worth.

The objectives of the Parker College Chiropractic Wellness Clinic are to provide a continuing and increasing level of service to the community for patients seeking chiropractic care, and to assist interns in developing, refining, and perfecting the expected skills he or she will need as a primary health care provider. Together with practical instruction in diagnosis, examination procedures, correlation of lab findings, adjusting techniques, X-ray, and case management in preparation of actual practice, interns are also instructed in ethical procedures for patient recruitment through personal contact, public speaking, and scoliosis screening programs. The Chiropractic Wellness Clinics also provide community exposure through public relations and media to help interns build a successful student practice.

Gross Anatomy Lab

All labs at Parker College of Chiropractic are also learning resource centers, second to none. The Gross Anatomy Lab for the dissection portion of the curriculum at Parker College is one of which the Institution is extremely proud. The principles of procedure are based on three important beliefs:

  1. The deceased should be treated with the same dignity as the living
  2. As doctors, a thorough knowledge of the human body is critical
  3. Study and education become amplified in bright, clean surroundings

These were the concepts kept in mind before this extraordinary Dissection Lab was created. To accomplish these goals, the College purchased 50 of the latest state-of-the-art cadaver immersion tables. These tables hold the preserved cadavers so when elevated, fluids are drained back into the tank, making the cadaver exceptionally easy to work on. Because of the heavy insulation and master crafting of these tanks, there is virtually no unpleasant odor in the lab when the tanks are closed.

Special study book racks are located on each table, making it convenient for the student to participate in the Lab and still have his or her notes readily visible. The College has established rigid regulations and usually no more than six students will ever be assigned to any one cadaver. This provides for an optimal educational experience. At all times when the Lab is in session, there are several instructors or Lab Assistants present, so the questions of every student may readily be answered.

It is partly because of outstanding facilities such as these, that Parker College of Chiropractic offers a B.S. degree with a major in Anatomy for students who meet the preprofessional requirements. This will enable them to pursue an M.S. and/or Ph.D. degree later if they so choose.

Lighting in the Lab is important, because to understand the body you must see the body clearly and in detail. Lab lighting is intensely bright which facilitates maximum viewing and there are ceiling mounted retractable lights. These lights are equipped with several different lenses, and when powered up can throw an intensified beam of light onto a potential area of study. These same lighting fixtures are in use in only the finest surgical rooms throughout the United States.

The pristine appearance of the floor represents yet another outstanding feature that was carefully planned and chosen. Tremendous research went into the floor covering and the result was a hospital-grade seamless floor which is chemical resistant and somewhat cushioned. The floor has been turned up onto the walls to make maintenance an easy task.

The total Anatomy Lab has three separate osteological study areas and a supervisory office for the diener. Other features of the lab are:

  1. Preparation area where newly received cadavers are examined by our expert faculty for suitability
  2. A separate refrigeration area where the College can store an additional 40 cadavers
  3. An amphitheater for prosection of interesting or difficult specimens for still better student education The amphitheater is in a gallery arrangement which makes it quite suitable for video demonstrations.
