Parker College: Press Release
Research Mastermind Harrison Ndetan Honored for Achievements

Harrison Ndetan B.S., M.S., M.P.H., Assistant Professor
October 21, 2009 (Dallas) — Harrison Ndetan, assistant professor in the Research Institute at Parker College of Chiropractic, has been honored with numerous awards and has conducted many studies this year. Continuing to be an exceptional asset to the chiropractic profession, Ndetan’s studies have been published in The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT), which is dedicated to the advancement of chiropractic health care principles and practice; The Journal of Chiropractic Education – the Official Journal of the Association of Chiropractic Colleges, and ChiroACESS, chiropractors’ online chiropractic research guide.
Ndetan is one of the masterminds in the Research Institute at Parker College of Chiropractic. Since 2004, he has worked as a research associate and biostatistician with Parker College. “He has an outstanding ability to design experiments, collect data, and analyze it,” said Dr. Ronald Rupert, dean of Research at Parker College.
Ndetan receives his Doctor of Public Health in Biostatistics degree this fall from the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) in Fort Worth, TX. Recently UNTHSC presented him with the Rising Star of Biostatistics award for his biostatistics work.
Ndetan has a passion for research and the curiosity to make something a reality. He feels a significant part of research is presenting the work that has been done. “If you don’t present or publish the study or the research you have done, it is not complete,” said Ndetan. “It’s very important to present what you find in your work so it can be shared with the world.”
Ndetan’s main focus is the public’s health and what chiropractic can do to help with this. He wants to be able to illustrate to people the importance of putting emphasis on prevention and on health promotion. He has done a large amount of research that affirms a wellness model should be followed and people need to take action in using chiropractic as preventative health care. “Health care in America is expensive,” said Ndetan. “It’s far more expensive to treat than to prevent diseases.”
“Dr. Rupert gives me the drive to do what I do and is a very encouraging person,” said Ndetan. Ndetan values his colleagues in the research institute. “I can trust the people at Parker, especially those I work with and can always rely on them to give me the support I need,” said Ndetan.
Ndetan is a graduate from the University of Buea in Cameroon. He earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in physics with a minor in computer science. He has been inducted into the Delta Omega honor society for public health and the American Public Health Association (APHA), representing chiropractic. Because of his desire for the continuous growth of research he serves on the peer review committees for the Journal of Manipulative Physiological Therapeutic (JMPT), Journal of Chiropractic Medicine (JCM), Journal of Chiropractic Education (JCE), and Journal of Osteopathic Medicine and Primary Care (OMPC). Ndetan also serves as an adjunct instructor for physics with the Dallas County Community College District.
“I would like to continue to help Parker do extraordinary research, to grow the chiropractic profession, and assist in improving the public’s view of chiropractic,” said Ndetan.
