Activity Center Collage

The 30,000 square foot Student Activity Center (also called Auditorium/Athletic SPA, which stands for the Science, Philosophy and Art of Chiropractic) was completed in August of 1992 in time for the first graduation ceremonies ever held on the Dallas campus. This $1.2 million renovation accommodates up to 1,500 people with 1,200 retractable theatre-style seats that allow the facility to quickly convert for use as a gymnasium or an auditorium.

Providing the latest in high-tech acoustical design and equipment, audio visual systems and professional lighting, the gymnasium is complete with regulation hardwood flooring for two separate basketballĀ or volleyball courts.

With an emphasis on maintaining natural health through proper physical exercise and positive life-style changes, the spacious two-story building provides a wide range of sports and recreational activities.

With a focus on overall good health, equipment was carefully chosen to effectively work all muscle groups, every age and every body shape with machines as well as free weights to accommodate the beginner or the experienced power lifter.

The second floor has mirrors for aerobics and martial art classes offered by the college. The aerobic exercise equipment available on the second floor includes a stepper, climber, rower, cross country skier and treadmill. There is also a heavy punching bag and speed bag, and stationary bicycles, each equipped with a telemetry device that monitors heart rate at measured intervals.

The lower level also includes a game room with table tennis, billiards, foosball and various video games.

The upper level includes a dining/break room with a refrigerator, a sink, a TV lounge and a chapel. The upper level is also equipped with large men's and women's saunas and showers with individual lockers and separate dressing rooms. There is an elevator to the second floor and special handicap restrooms.

The facility is staffed by a full-time Student Activities Coordinator who facilitates schedules and provides professional assistance for tournaments, intramurals, competitive and participant sports including basketball, volleyball, golf, softball, running, tennis and other sports. Parker College has a well organized and successful intercollegiate basketball team. There are also regular classes in aerobics and martial arts.
