BS in Health and Wellness

The Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Wellness is an optional academic program for matriculated students.

Accreditation
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board granted Parker College the authority to award the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Health and Wellness, effective May 8, 2006.

Parker College of Chiropractic is accredited by the Commission on Colleges and Schools of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award the Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Wellness.

How to Apply
Matriculated students interested in the Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Wellness from Parker College must secure the application and transcript evaluation request in the registrar's office, submit the completed application to the cashier's office, and arrange payment of the $150 application, transcript evaluation and record diploma fee.

The following process is initiated as soon as the baccalaureate program coordinator receives the application and transcript evaluation request from the cashier's office:

  • Copies of transcripts on file in the registrar's office will be requested.
  • Course work will be evaluated in terms of applicability to the B.S. degree in Health and Wellness at Parker College regardless of how courses might have been utilized in other programs.
  • An evaluation letter reflecting degree compliance and/or deficiencies will be sent to the student.
  • The Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Wellness may be awarded as soon as all phase I, II, and III requirements are completed.

Academic Requirements for BS in Health and Wellness
The Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Wellness at Parker College requires a minimum of 149 semester hours of upper and lower division course work. The required course work is divided into three groups.
 
Phase I requires 64 semester hours of lower division college level credits applicable towards a baccalaureate degree. These core course requirements must be completed at regionally accredited colleges or universities. Science courses must be intended for science majors and must reflect a full year's sequence with appropriate labs. One semester survey courses in the sciences are not acceptable. Fine arts courses (music, art, drama, and dance) that focus primarily on performance techniques or involve mostly studio work are excluded. Only course work in which a student earns a grade of "C" or better is eligible for transfer credit.

Students may choose to take one or more of the undergraduate science courses, appropriate for a baccalaureate degree in the sciences offered through Parker College. The science courses at Parker College are offered in an accelerated format and include anatomy and physiology I and II, general chemistry I and II, organic chemistry I and II, and college physics I and II. Course descriptions may be found under the anatomical, physiologic and pathologic curriculum sections of the catalog. Substitutions allowed for D.C. degree prerequisites do not satisfy baccalaureate degree requirements.

Phase I course requirements for the B.S. degree in Health and Wellness are as follows:
Biological Sciences with labs  8 semester hours
General Chemistry I & II with labs  8 semester hours
Organic Chemistry I w/ lab or Biochemistry w/ lab  4 semester hours
Organic Chemistry II w/ lab or Biochemistry w/ lab  4 semester hours
Physics I with lab  4 semester hours
Physics II, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology or Statistics  3 semester hours

English, Literature, or Public Speaking  3 semester hours

Humanities Social Sciences/Fine Arts

Matriculated students with deficiencies in the B.S. in Health and Wellness degree may fulfill these requirements while a student at Parker College or within ten years of the date of initial enrollment in the D.C. degree program at Parker College. Students entering Parker College with all needed phase I and II courses may be eligible to receive the B.S. degree in Health and Wellness as soon as all phase III courses at Parker College are successfully completed.

Phase II includes 26 semester hours of approved courses offered by other regionally accredited colleges or the undergraduate program at Parker College. All electives must be applicable towards a Bachelor of Science degree.

Phase III includes 59 hours of upper division courses at Parker College. An overall "C" or better average is required in all phase III courses. Students must also maintain a "C" or better average in courses designated as the Health and Wellness major (courses indicated with an asterisk*).

Phase III course requirements for the B.S. degree in Health and Wellness are as follows:

Transfer students from professional schools may be eligible to receive the B.S. degree in Health and Wellness when at least 60 percent of all courses designated as the Health and Wellness major and 60 percent of all phase III courses are successfully completed in residence at Parker College.
