BS in Anatomy

The Bachelor of Science degree in Anatomy is an optional additional program for matriculated students.  This academic degree gives the recipient a strong foundation in the anatomical sciences which can be applied toward advanced academic degrees.

Accreditation
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board granted Parker College the authority to award the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Anatomy on February 1, 1991.

Parker College of Chiropractic is accredited by the Commission on Colleges and Schools of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award the Bachelor of Science degree in Anatomy.

How to Apply
Matriculated students interested in the Bachelor of Science degree in Anatomy from Parker College must secure the application and transcript evaluation Request in the registration office, submit the completed application to the cashier's office, and arrange payment of the $150 application, transcript evaluation and record diploma fee.

The following process is initiated as soon as the baccalaureate program coordinator receives the application and transcript evaluation request from the cashier's office:

• Copies of transcripts on file in the registrar's office will be requested.
• Course work will be evaluated in terms of applicability to the B.S. degree in anatomy at Parker College regardless of how courses might have been utilized in other programs.
• An evaluation letter reflecting degree compliance and/or deficiencies will be sent to the student.
• The Bachelor of Science degree in Anatomy may be awarded as soon as all category I, II, and III requirements are completed.

Academic Requirements for BS in Anatomy
The Bachelor of Science degree in Anatomy at Parker College requires a minimum of 130 semester hours of upper and lower division course work. The required course work is divided into three categories.

Category I requires 62 semester hours of specific lower division college level credits applicable towards a Bachelor of Science degree. These core course requirements must be completed at regionally accredited colleges or universities. By carefully selecting prerequisite courses required for admission to the D.C. degree program, it is possible that one set of courses fulfills both the prerequisites for the D.C. degree and the core course requirements for the bachelor's degree. Fine arts courses (music, art, drama, and dance) that focus primarily on performance techniques or involve mostly studio work are excluded. Only course work in which a student earns a grade of "C" or better is eligible for transfer credit.

Students may choose to take one or more of the undergraduate science courses, appropriate for a baccalaureate degree in the sciences, offered through Parker College. The science courses at Parker College are offered in an accelerated format and include anatomy and physiology I and II, general chemistry I and II, organic chemistry I and II, and college physics I and II. Course descriptions may be found under the anatomical, physiologic and pathologic curriculum sections of the catalog. Science courses offered by other regionally accredited colleges or universities must be intended for biology or pre-med majors and must include at least eight semester hours with appropriate labs in a complete year's sequence. Substitutions allowed for D.C. degree prerequisites do not satisfy baccalaureate degree requirements.

Matriculated students with deficiencies in the B.S. in Anatomy degree may fulfill these requirements while a student at Parker College or within ten years of the date of initial enrollment in the D.C. degree program at Parker College. Students entering Parker College with all needed Category I and III courses may be eligible to receive the B.S. degree in Anatomy as soon as all Category II courses at Parker College are successfully completed.

Category II includes 62 hours of upper division courses that are included in the required D.C. degree curriculum. An overall "C" or better average is required in all Category II courses completed at Parker College. An overall "C" or better average is also required in those courses designated as the Anatomy major. Anatomy major courses are marked with an asterisk [*].

Transfer students from professional schools may be eligible to receive the B.S. degree in Anatomy when at least 60 percent of all courses designated as the Anatomy major and 60 percent of all category II courses are successfully completed in residence at Parker College.

Category III requires a total of six semester hours of elective credit. Students may choose to take one or more of the basic science electives offered through Parker College. The following basic science electives are not included in the required D.C. degree curriculum:

Approved courses offered by other regionally accredited colleges or universities may also complete this requirement. Subject areas such as business, accounting, economics, management, marketing, speech, communications, computer science/information systems, or physical anthropology are acceptable.
